This commemorative half dollar was issued by the United States Mint in 1920 to mark the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the Pilgrims at Plymouth in 1620. The obverse features a portrait of Governor William Bradford, one of the leaders of the Plymouth Colony, holding a Bible, with the inscription “In God We Trust.” The reverse depicts the Mayflower sailing ship, symbolizing the voyage that led to the establishment of one of the earliest European settlements in North America. The coin commemorates a foundational event in American colonial history and early self-governance.
